Choosing Your Topic | Developing Your Idea | What Does A Good Bill Look Like? | Writing Your Bill | Bill Format | Bill Requirements | Banned Topics | Sample Bill | Next Steps

Even though you have finished writing your Bill – your work is not complete! Just because your Bill looks good does not mean it will pass. You must convince other Youth Legislators to vote for your idea. You must speak before both the Committee and Chamber members. In short, you have to know your stuff!

  • Research your topic. Organize your materials carefully so that they can be used
    effectively during debate.
  • Make sure your Co-Sponsor is fully knowledgeable about your Bill. You will not be
permitted into the opposite Chamber to help!
  • Prepare for your presentation. Seek out opposing views so you can have rebuttals and responses ready. Have your delegation “dissect” your Bill – it will only help you
    make it stronger.
  • Write your 3-minute Opening Statement. Practice it!
  • Anticipate and prepare for Technical Questions.
