Participant Responsibilities

E-mail Print PDF

Each delegate's responsibilities will depend on his/her individual assignment at Conference. Most delegates will be expected to prepare formalized documents (i.e. bills, research papers, briefs, etc.) prior to the Conference. The different documents required of each delegate can be found under each position's specific web page. All delegates are responsible for submitting their work in a timely manner (see deadlines), so that the items can be properly compiled in time for the Pre-Legislative session and Conference.

Additionally, all delegates are responsible for performing the necessary research for their respective positions prior to the Legislative weekend so that they are prepared to contribute to debate in a meaningful and constructive fashion. This preparation may involve reading up on news events, reviewing the Youth Governor's Agenda, anticipating arguments against one's bill, etc.

Finally, remember that Youth and Government is a forum for young adults to voice their opinions on issues that are relevant and important to the citizens of New Jersey. Delegates are encouraged to speak their thoughts, because the diversity of opinions generated in this environment is key to bringing about real change. Bearing this in mind, participants will be expected to show respect to their peers at all times and contribute to maintaining an atmosphere of kindness, understanding, and cooperation.
