Legislative Delegates

The Legislator position accounts for the majority of delegates at Conference.  Delegates who decide to be a Legislator must chose between being a Senator or an Assembly member.  Every Legislator must write their own personal bill and co-sponsor at least one other Legislators bill.  Legislators then attend conference and debate upon their own and other students bills within Committee and Chamber.

The following is useful information for Legislators as they prepare for conference:

Important Dates:

  • March 4th, 2011  --Bill Submission Deadline
    Bill submission will be closed as of March 4th at 11am
    When submitting your bill, please click on the the "Submit a Bill Online" link.
     
  • March 13th, 2011 --Pre-Legislative Session
    Bills will be debated and strengthened

  • March 14th, 2011 --Bill Editing Begins
    Bills are available to edit after Pre-Leg based on input acquired

  • April 1st, 2011  --Bill Editing Ends
    No additional changes can be made to bills as of 11pm.

 Governors Agenda   --the Governors Agenda is a collection of the topics deemed pressing by the Governor and Cabinet.  The document will serve as a great resource when thinking about a potential topic for a bill.

 Officers Topic List    --this list is a collection of topics deemed important by the Legislative Presiding Officers. This document presents and explains relevant issues within the committee topic areas: Education, Environment & Transportation, Government - Law & Public Safety, Health and Human Services, Labor & Economic Development. These topics are an optional starting points and are meant to briefly update delegates on some of the issues within the State of New Jersey.

Sample Bill  --while the online submission system should circumvent most formatting errors, this document will give an idea of the content and format required for a Bill.
