Directions to the Pre-Legislative Session at The New Jersey Statehouse

 
 

COMMITTEE SESSIONS

  • Legislators are assigned to a Committee upon receipt of the final Bills.
  • Only the Main Sponsor is guaranteed to be placed with his/her Bill.
  • The purpose of the Committee is to study each Bill and make them ready for presentation (if passed through Committee) to the Assembly and Senate.
  • Committees will only meet on Friday during the Legislative Weekend.
  • There will be 8 Committees with each containing 15-20 Bills.

* Labor & Economic Development
* Governmental Affairs
* Law & Public Safety
  • The entire Committee is responsible for the quality of all Bills assigned to it.
  • Each member of the Governor’s Cabinet is responsible for the Committee in his/her area. During the Legislative Weekend, the Cabinet members will work closely with the Committee on such items as the Governor’s Initiatives.
  • Each Committee will have an Advisor assigned to it who can assist the Committee Leadership if asked.

Committees will debate their Bills and vote each one pass/fail onto Chamber. The order in which Bills are voted out of Committee will determine the Chamber Dockets.
