Qualifications
- Must have attended Youth and Government at least one year
- Must have demonstrated previous leadership experience
- Must have excellent knowledge of Court Procedure
- Must have the ability to independently research
- Must be able to speak well and easily in public
- Must be aware of the issues before the New Jersey Supreme Court
- Must demonstrate an acceptance of the Program goals, philosophy, and rules
Duties and Responsibilities
- Presides over all sessions of the Court
- Attends any/all scheduled training sessions
- Must assure that all Briefs that reach the Chamber receive fair and equitable treatment
- Explains procedures of the court
- Enforces order and decorum during sessions
- Reports on Court activities at Closing session
- Reflects Code of Conduct and YMCA Ground Rules
- Selects with the Chamber Advisor, 3 nominees for Outstanding Jurist
Election
- Elections are held at the conclusion of the conference. Students elected this year will serve the following year.
- Each candidate will present a 2-minute statement in support of his/her candidacy and answer several questions.
Candidates must remain outside of the room until called upon to speak
