Directions to the Pre-Legislative Session at The New Jersey Statehouse

 
 

Secretary of State/Rising Governor | Cabinet Members | President of the Senate / Speaker of the Assembly | Senate Secretary | Assembly Clerks | Assembly / Senate Chaplain

CABINET MEMBERS

The Youth Governor, prior to Pre-Leg, shall appoint Cabinet members representing all of the Committees as well as a Chief of Staff. Every effort is to be made to insure broad delegation representation on the Cabinet.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience in the Program
  • Expressed interest in the subject area selected for
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • Acceptance of program goals, philosophy, and rules


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the issues pertaining to his/her department and
    prepare a Position Paper for the Governor about those issues
  • Represent the issue of his/her department during the Governor’s Bill discussions at
    the Program
  • Assist with the planning of Pre-Leg
  • Chief of Staff shall assist in the coordination of all Cabinet activities, organize Press
    Conferences, etc.
  • Must attend both Pre-Leg and Officers’ Training
  • Develop a Governor’s Initiative Bill in the topic area assigned
  • Prepare and present testimony to the two committees in his/her area of expertise
